FEEDING YOUR BODY JUST PROTEINS IN THE HOPE
OF LOSING WEIGHT ISN’T A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE
YOU WILL LOSE YOUR HEALTH ALONG THE WAY
Stop subjecting your body to high protein diets, as many medical experts now fear that these diets are responsible for causing many imbalances in the body. High protein diets are popular because it’s believed that their low card food plan helps one lose weight quickly and also brings down the person’s cholesterol, triglyceride and fat levels.
Sunita Sapur, a consultant nutritionist with Apollo Hospital breaks the myth and says the above statement is not really true. “High protein diets may provide extra protein content in the body, but they also change the normal metabolic activity. If the body is on a high-protein diet, it requires enormous amounts of water intake. If you don’t drink enough water, severe dehydration may be caused,” she warns. Sunita is also worried that many are not aware of the fact that high protein food items contain ample amounts of fat and cholesterol, which finally result in cardiovascular diseases. “High protein diets may decreases calcium content in the body. Women are prone to disease like osteoporosis when they lack calcium content in bones. Another scary factor is that an excess amount of load is placed on the kidney and liver. Remember, excess protein content gets converted into fat,” she says.
A human body requires the right amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and glucose in it to remain healthy. “Don’t be too obsessive about proteins. Everybody requires proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, fat, etc in equal proportions to help the body function properly. Also youngsters below 20 years of age should not go on a high protein diet,” says Dr K.Butchibabu, superintendent of NRI Hospital. He says one only needs extra amount of protein if they are suffering from protein losing diseases like nephritis.
